On 21 February 2013, ACEF Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Xie Yuhong, and Senior Adviser to Secretary General, Mr. Lv Keqin, met with Mr. Jan Eliasson，UN Deputy Secretary-General and Ms. Renata Dessallien, UN Resident Coordinator. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on the accomplishments of an environmental NGO in safeguarding the rights of pollution victims and environmental rights of the general public, as well as how to strengthen the partnership between UN, government and environmental civil society organizations to ensure the rights to a clean environment and pursue an inclusive form of public participation and censorship. From 1 January 2011 to 31 December 2012, supported by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ACEF successfully implemented the international project entitled with “Protect the Environmental Rights and Justice of the Public”, which aimed to promote public access to environmental information and to raise their environmental awareness; to provide legal aid to victims of environmental damages, especially the vulnerable groups and protect their environmental rights by public interest litigation (PIL) or mediation; to promote the establishment of environmental tribunals, development of a PIL system and legislation on liability and compensation for environmental damages. |
